Masmak citadel

Masmak citadel is a clay & mud fort with 4 watch towers & firm walls. It is built with stone blocks and it situated in the hub of Riyadh city. This Citadel finds a prominent place in the history of Saudi Arabia as the Riyadh city’s recapture led by Ibn Saud happened here.

Though this fort was built nearly seven centuries ago, it is still perfect renovated condition. The impressive 3.65 meters tall palm gate is a noteworthy aspect to admire. You can also find an opening at the door’s centre called as the al-Khokha. Without opening the gate, this opening is ample enough for an individual to pass through one at a time. There is a mosque and a well inside the castle. You will find the roofs of the castle made up of taramic, Ethel and painted palm tree wood.

You can admire a wide range of artefacts like antique costumes, swords, guns, cannons and agricultural relics displayed at this fort museum.

Overall Masmak citadel serves as an excellent symbol portraying the rich history and culture of Saudi Arabia.

Morning hours opened from 08:00 to - 12:00 hrs

Evening hours opened from (16:00 hrs - 21:00 hrs

On Sun, Tue, Thu only men are allowed on both mornings as well as evening hours.

On Saturdays, Men are allowed during evening hours.

Families are allowed on Monday, Wednesday on both morning and evening hours.

Friday and Saturday, families are allowed during evening hours. .

Fri Closed during the morning hours, opened for families during the evening hours.
