Ajay Maken the Union Minister of sports said his ministry wants the BCCI to probe into the match fixing allegations made by former cricketer Vinod Kambli. If the Board of Cricket Control of India fails to do so, then he warned his ministry may step in, to investigate into the matter.

Though the BCCI may call for an investigation, the board was defiant, and asserted it would not give any importance to the allegations made by Vinod Kambli.

The former cricketer’s statement has opened a Pandora box saying that something had gone fishy in the India’s semifinal match against Sri Lanka in the 1996 world cup. This made the sports ministry to say that, the BCCI should investigate into the allegations made by Vinod Kambli, or else his ministry may take up the investigation task.

However Mr. Rajiv Shukla, senior BCCI official said that no importance should be given to the allegations made by the former cricketer. He said Vinod kambli has made the allegations after 15 years, the incident has occurred. It seems Vinod has waked up after a long slumber, and now making these kind of derogatory unworthy statements.

Mr. Shukla who holds as the post as chairman of the IPL governing council, said they have always been tough on cricketers, who have been found to be corrupt and they have never shown any mercy on the tainted players.

The IPL governing chief said that a number of Boards have pardoned the corrupt players, but BCCI has never shown even the slightest mercy.

In view of the allegations made by Vinod Kambli, the Sports Minister said that, when a team player make such statements, it should be thoroughly investigated and no turn should be left unturned, The people of the country has the right to know whether the allegations made by Kambli is true or false.

Mr.Makhen said if the BCCI did not investigate into the matter, then his ministry will take up the task of probing.
