Kris Srikanth, the Chief Selector said that the poor performance by the Indian batsmen has a lot to do rather than Dhoni’s captaincy, which was strongly criticized, after India suffered a humiliating defeat to two consecutive tests against Australia.

The former skipper said as a whole, the Indian batting did not go well as anticipated, however it should be admitted, that the Australian team played better than India. He said there is no point in saying lame excuses and that the Indian team should move on.

When enquired about the captainship of Dhoni, who came under sharp criticism by the former cricket legends such as Wasim Akram and Ian Chapell, Kris Srikkanth said it is not fair to hold Dhoni alone responsible for the poor show.

The chief selector came in defense of Dhonsi and said if a team loses any reason can be said, he noted, that the Indian captain truthfully took the whole responsibility on his shoulder and admitted for the team’s pathetic performance. He reminded that Dhoni has admitted that batting has not clicked and that in only in patches, it has given some results.

When asked to identify the exact areas where the Indian team went wrong, Srikanth said that the batsmen's poor performance was one of the reasons for the team’s defeat.

Srikanth recollected, in South Africa, India drew the series, in that tour at least one Indian batsman went on to score a century, but in this ongoing tour, the batsmen were about to score only half centuries and did not make a big score. Srikanth said only little oppurtunities comes in a test and one has to grab it propery, when it comes in his way. He said India had some good chances in the Melbourne test and should have grabbed and won the test.

Srikanth further added that the Indian team was 211 of the loss of two wickets; from there India began to lose its batsman one by one. Even though Sehwag, Tendualkar and Dravid played well, none of them made a big score. Srikanth said when a team loses the first test; the pressure automatically gets built up in the second test. He hoped the Indian team will put up a good show in the Perth test, as it has won at Perth last time
