Daal Shorba

A delicious Indian soup recipe with the main ingredient called Dal. This is a specialty of Punjab in India.

Ingredients:

  • 4 pieces of hard-boiled eggs
  • 1 pc of onion
  • One half of pureed tomato
  • Three to four garlic flakes
  • One half inch ginger
  • One to two pcs of green chilies
  • Two tablespoon of coriander leaves; chopped
  • Salt for seasoning
  • chili powder (red) to season
  • three-fourth teaspoon of turmeric powder
  • one half of coriander powder
  • three fourth teaspoon of garam masala
  • two to three tablespoon of ghee or vegetable oil
  • one cup of green peas or two hundred fifty grams of paneer

How to prepare:

  1. Take or remove the shell of the hard boiled eggs out and set aside. When you are using paneer, then you may divide it into cubes then start frying until it will appear golden. Set it aside.
  2. Make a paste of ginger, the garlic, the green chilies, onions, and ginger in a chopper or a mixer.
  3. Start heating the oil in a pan or kadhi or wok and then add the paste of onion-garlic then fry until the color appears golden brown.
  4. Put the turmeric, the salt, the chili powder and the coriander but not the garam masala yet.  Fry them for one minute and then add tomato puree. Fry until the spices starts to leave the oil.
  5. Add one cup of water and then continue cooking until it is dry.
  6. This time you may start adding your fried cubes of paneer or green peas and then the boiled eggs.
  7. Add one cup of water and then boil the mixture. Once it started to boil you may lower down the fire.
  8. Simmer for at least ten minutes.
  9. Decorate or garnish with coriander leaves, garam masala and then serve your daal shorba immediately while it is hot with roti, paratha or rice.
