The Chettinad Mutton Curry

The Chettinad is a delicious south Indian food. Now a day the Chettinad food varieties had acquired name and fame globally. The Chettinad mutton curry is sure to tickle your taste buds.

The Ingredients needed are as follows
1 kg of Mutton
100 Gms of Shallots (small onions)
One piece of Ginger
5 to 8 no’s of Garlic pods
2 pieces of Cinnamon (dal-chini)
4 no’s  of Cloves (laung)
1/2 tsp of Fennel (sauf) -
 1/2 tsp of Cumin seeds (Jeera)
A few Pepper corns
2 tsp of Coriander powder
2 tsp of Chilly powder
¼ cup of Oil
2 no’s of Tomato (sliced)
1 sprig of Curry leaves
½ tsp of Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
2 no’s of Onion (large) (finely chopped)
1/2 tsp of Turmeric powder
Salt - to taste


Method of preparation:
You need to clean the mutton and cut it into medium size pieces.
Then you need to prepare a coarse paste by grinding together spices, shallots, garlic, ginger, and peppercorn. Now make all these powder into a coarse paste.
For a period of 30 minutes, the mutton pieces should be marinated with coarse paste and salt.
Then in a pressure cooker heat a tablespoon of oil.
Then add the marinated mutton to it.
Up to 4 whistles pressures cook the mutton.
In a kadai or pan heat the oil. Splutter the mustard seeds.
Then add the curry leaves chopped onions and sauté it till they become golden brown in color.
Then add the chopped tomatoes and sauté it until they become soft.
Then add the mutton to it and cook it till the oil gets separated.
Now you can have the delicious mutton curry with rice or roti.
