The Arad fort

The Arad fort is one of the oldest forts in the kingdom of Bahrain. It was constructed in the fifteenth century. When Bahrain was occupied by Oman in the early part of the nineteenth century, the fort was broadly reconstructed. During the Oman occupation it served as a bastion for military operation.The fort is located in the Muharraq Island. The Sheikh Isa bin Salman Causeway connects the fort with the mainland.


One can find the fort is built in the Islamic style of architecture. The entire fort is in the shape of a square in shape and cylinderical tower is located in al Arad Fort the corners. The fort is surrounded e by a trench fed with water drawn from the well which was dug specifically for this purpose. A tourist can find a nose shaped opening in the each upper wall. The openings were specifically meant for the marksmen.


A visitor can witness the craft bazaars housed inside. Your little ones can enjoy their time by riding the rides installed in the parsk. You can also listen to the melodious traditional music that is held at the fort’s courtyard on every Thursday and Friday afternoon.


Visiting hours

Opened on Sunday to Wednesday from 7am to 2 pm

On Thu to Sat the fort is opened to the public from 9am to 6pm, On Fridays, is opened from 3pm to 6pm
