RCC lifts DNV CRYcket 2012 trophy in U14 category, CCC & Gladiators joint winners in U12

After the last year’s fierce storm which interrupted the annual children’s “DNV CRYcket” tournament, the early morning showers this year on the 30th March, again gave a scare before the 15th “DNV CRYcket-2012” could even be started. But very soon it turned into a brilliant morning, followed by generally good weather throughout the day. Wind picked up in the afternoon and lasted for a couple of hours, but could not diffuse the great fervor of the children. The unfinished U12 final of the day was the only missed part of the otherwise wonderful day full of fun, enthusiasm and other activities. This annual U14 children’s event is organized by Friends of CRY Club – Kuwait (FOCC-Kuwait). FOCC supports Manav Ashrita Sansthan (MAS) project through CRY, which is focused on the children’s up-liftment in the tribal region of Rajasthan state. A progress report was presented in this year’s souvenir, along with FOCC activities in Kuwait.

The “Associate Membership” for FOCC is also now open for the current year 2012-13. The event was sponsored by Det NorskeVeritas (DNV). Our other sponsors were Oriental Restaurant, BankMuscat, Career Hunters, Sefeena Gen Trading & Contracting Co., Avanti Palace restaurant, Payal Jewellers, Udayam restarant, Toastmasters International, Mr. Malek Al-Ajeel & Dr. Hind Al-Bahar, PremiumChoice.me, and many other anonymous well wishers. We are grateful for their support, through which FOCC and CRY are able to meet their targets. We are also thankful to KOC Hockey and Football Committees for providing us with the grounds and facilities. We are also grateful to HE the Ambassador of India for his support through this message. Thank you to the press, Arab Times, Al-watan, Dajijworld.com, Goaworld, com, Indiansinkuwait.com, Kuwait Times, Kuwaitsamachar.com, Manglorean.com. Special thanks to the Technical Committee, Umpires and scorers, Team Officials, Cry Buddies, and all the volunteers. We thank the KOC Security staff for helping us for the second year in a row. They saved us during the storm in 2011 and restored order in 2012, to enable us to complete the tournament ceremonies. The usual features of the event included the KIDS corner offering exciting games, drawing competition for children in various age categories and essay writing competition, which was open to all – parents and children.

The winners in the Essay Competition were Dwiti Ponda (7-10 years); Vijay Amamt (11-13 years) Astrid Jerald (14 -16 years) and Mohammed Inshauddin (above 16 including adults category). The list of winner in the Drawing Competition include Vidya Vathi (under 6 years) Mohammed Qasim (7-10 years), Joe Jacob and Apoorva Rao (joint winners in the 11-16 years category) and Mythreyi Rajan (above 16 Including adults). The Buy for CRY stall sold articles donated by good samaritans at unbelievable prices. The Raffle draw offered 10 fabulous prizes and was again hugely successful. This year the U12 category had full participation with 12 teams and the U14 category with 10. In all more than 250 children participated, displaying fierce competition and pride in the colour of their teams. While the final match between CCC & DIPS B was going on there were some interruptions and the game had to be stopped. The harsh conditions that prevailed prevented the resumption of the game and the finalists were declared joint winners. Srinidhi Jeyakumar of Gladiators was declared the player of the tournament for her brilliant performance, scoring a total of 43 runs in 3 matches, being out only once and getting 5 wickets in 6 overs conceding 38 runs.
