Prakruti – Workshop on Landscape Painting for Budding Student Artists in Kuwait

Amma Kuwait and PART (Progressive Art Realization Troop) of Kuwait join hands to celebrate nature through art. This maiden joint venture is a five hour landscape painting workshop called Prakruti.

About 250 children in the age group ten to seventeen are expected to participate in the workshop conducted by professional artists of PART. The event will take place on 20 April 2012 at the Jawahara Ahlia School, Riggae from 9am to 3.30pm.
Amma Kuwait is a socio-cultural organization, registered with and recognized by the Indian Embassy in Kuwait. This organization was formed in 1995 by a group of like minded individuals drawing inspiration and strength from the global humanitarian efforts of Mata Amritanandamayi Devi of India. With time, Amma Kuwait that commenced as a small group of families has grown into a platform that has provided various opportunities for children to give vent to their intrinsic creative talents.

Through community service oriented projects such as health camps, seminars, exhibitions and other socio-cultural events Amma Kuwait successfully brings the Indian community in Kuwait under one umbrella.

Progressive Art Realization Troop (PART) of Kuwait is a nascent non-commercial organization of professional artists residing in Kuwait. This troop was formed in order to enhance creative ideas among members and to promote discussions and analysis in the field of Painting and Creative Art. Recently, a symposium and exhibition on contemporary art was organized by PART which was well received by the artistic community in Kuwait.

PRAKRUTI is a Sanskrit word which means Nature. True to its name the workshop aims to align itself with the world in its mission to conserve nature. What better way to achieve this than by inspiring children who hold hope and promise to observe the beauty of omnipresent nature they are a part of.

The connection between nature, art and man is ancient, deep and one that is constantly evolving. Since centuries, through civilizations, this bond has served to stir man’s imagination and creativity despite demands of a mundane day to day life, to find expression through various forms and mediums.

Evidently, nature has played muse to man on more than one occasion. The exploration of nature in art has been one of the quintessential pursuits of man’s creative mind. All encompassing nature is at once simple and complex. From the ladybird to the butterfly, from a bee-hive to a cob web, pristine lakes to the expansive sky, nature weaves intricate designs and spectacular colors that have inspired generations of naturalists, philosophers, artists, poets and ordinary men alike.
Snow capped mountains that hold their mighty heads above clouds and gurgling rivers that meander around rocks are marvels of nature that teach us invaluable lessons of life.

However, there is no such thing as permanency in nature. While man aims for permanency, nature strives to achieve otherwise albeit unplanned. Nature is in a state of continuous change and is the best exponent of the phenomenon of transience, amply demonstrated by changes that take place in nature.

Green leaves that change colour and shed in autumn, skies that gloom just before rains are all harbingers of transformation that is inevitable. Simply put, nature imparts the greatest lessons of acceptance, letting go and moving on.
Nature is the personification of peace and embraces humanity with motherly warmth. However, like all other aspects of life, paradoxes are rife in nature too and the same Mother Nature time and again assumes the role of a ruthless preceptor whose rage performs a balancing act in this world. Long awaited rains cool the parched earth, quench the thirst of living beings but at other times sweep away cities and towns in merciless fury. Man’s intellect has reached out for the universe beyond Earth but has failed to unravel some of the simplest expressions of nature in his immediate environment. His strength and abilities have won him laurels across man-made boundaries but meek and powerless he stands before nature’s wrath.

The mystery of nature never ceases and continues to baffle man beyond rhyme or reason, philosophy or science. Timeless nature has had various connotations for man and perhaps why man has held nature in awe since ages. Even so, man’s irresponsible ways have negatively impacted nature affecting the ecological balance in this world. There is mounting international concern today on the depletion of nature and this has spurt forth in movements to protect Mother Nature.

The United Nations declared the year 2010 as the International Year of Biodiversity and soon after 2011 was declared the International Year of Forests. Evidently, global efforts are on at war footing to preserve nature for future generations.
During the workshop twenty professional artists will demonstrate techniques of landscape painting to about 250 selected student artists. Following the workshop, an exhibition of the paintings of the day and previous works of participants will be conducted.

Nature as we see today was not conceived in a day but is the result of billions of years of metamorphosis that the universe has been through. Can we not inspire ourselves to spare a few minutes to consciously observe and appreciate nature? Is it not our duty to preserve Mother Nature for our children?
