Matisse Museum (Nice)

The Musée Matisse in Nice is a nationalized museum dedicated to the work created by the renowned French painter Henri Matisse. It collects one of the biggest compilations of Matisse works that reveals the creative beginnings and his development till his most recent work. The museum, opened in 1963 is situated in Villa des Arènes, in Cimiez vicinity.


You will find museum set amid pleasing surroundings. The park encircling the museum is a great place for your little ones to play and enjoy.


The museum boasts of having 68 gouaches and paintings, 218 prints, 236 drawings, 14 books, 57 sculptures and 95 photos. It exhibits 187 items used by Matisse as well as ceramics, stained glass, tapestries, prints, and other documents.


You can find interesting sketches like Matisse painting on the Venice Chapel, as well as some of his personal photos. The sculptures kept on display are also very impressive. Likewise the roman ruins at the rear of the Museum are also worth visiting.


Opening hours

Except on Tuesdays and on some public holidays, the museum is opened to the public on all days in a year from 10 am to 6 pm.
