The Chettinad Fish curry Recipe

The Chettinad fish curry is another tasty delicious lip smacking dish from the chettinad cuisine.

Ingredients needed are

½ kg of fish of fish
2 tsp of red chilli powder
3 tsp of coriander leaves
1 tsp of fennel (saunf)
1 tsp of Khas Khas (poppy seeds)
For seasoning purpose
2 to 3 tsp of oil
½ tsp of mustard
½ tsp of black gram (urad) dhal
¼ tsp of fenugreek
½ tsp of fennel (saunf)
A few curry leaves
¾ cup of chopped onions.
6 flakes of chopped garlic.
1 cup of chopped tomatoes
For taste sufficient quantity of tamarind extract.
Some salt for taste.


Preparation method

•    You need to first wash the fish slices.

•    The red chilies should be grinded with coriander seeds, poppy and fennel seeds.

•    Then heat the oil. Season the oil with black gram dhal, mustard, fenugreek, saunf and curry leaves.

•    Then add onion and garlic and fry them till they become light brown in color.

•    Add the grounded masala and fry it well.  

•    Then add the tomato and tamarind extract. For a few minutes it should be simmered.

•    Then add the fish and salt. Cook it to sufficient taste.
