Poland Education System

Kinder garden education starts at the age of 5 or 6 for kids in Poland. For the First standard in primary schools, it begins from 6 to 7 years. One year mandatory education as well as not exceeding the age of 7 years is essential for a kid to gain access to the first standard.

On completion of the 6th class, the result of a mandatory test decides for a student, as to what lower secondary school (distinct gheem-nah-sium, gimnazjum) (Junior High/ Middle School) he or she will be admitted. The student will be present at this school for classes seven, eight and nine, for duration of three years .After the completion of this stage, the student has to take another compulsory test, which will determine as to what upper secondary level school he has to enter. There are a lot of alternatives for a student. One can take the normal 3 year education at academic school called liceum or 4 years at a vocational school known as technikum.

Primary school for 6 year duration

3-year gymnasium for 3 years

Post-gymnasium training centers

General lyceum for 3 years

Specialized lyceum for 3 years

Vocational school for two or three years

Technical secondary school for 4 years

Complementary technical secondary school for three years

Complementary lyceum for two years.

Primary education

It consist of two stages

Stage I comprises of grade One, Two and Three and is this phase is known as integrated teaching stage. The period facilitates the smooth changeover from the preschool learning to education at school.

Stage II comprises of grades four, five and six.Some of the subjects covered in Primary education are modern foreign language, history and civics Polish language, mathematics, music, natural science, art, computer sciences, physical education, technology, ethics or religion.

Secondary Education

The Secondary Education consists of two stages, the Lower and Upper secondary education.

Lower secondary education: This is a three year full time education given for students who have completed the reformed education. It is for students who are in the age group of 13 to 16 years.

Upper secondary education: This education is given for students in the age group of 16 to 20years. In this education the student are taught to take up Matura exam and obtained diplomas in vocational courses.

Non Tertiary or Post secondary Education: This education is for students in the age group of 19 to 21 years. In this period, education is offered on a variety of branches like arts, teacher education, medical studies, economics and administration, agriculture, technology, fishery and forestry, hotel services, computing, transport and communication.

Tertiary Education

This like University education. The following kind of upper education organization are distinguished in the Polish scheme
Agricultural schools, Universities, Technical universities, medical academies, etc.
