Yemen's opposition to work with US, Gulf to prevent Saleh's return
Sana'a, June 5 (IANS) Yemen's opposition Sunday said it would work with US officials and Gulf Arab leaders to prevent President Ali Abdullah Saleh's return to the country from Saudi capital Riyadh, Xinhua reported.
Saleh is in the Saudi capital for chest surgery to remove a shrapnel he sustained during an attack on the presidential palace Friday.
"We are working with US and Gulf Arab leaders to prevent Saleh from returning to Yemen again ... Saleh's rule and regime are over," Opposition spokesman Mohamed Qahtan said Sunday.
Earlier in the day, a close aide of Saleh said the president would return home within days after finishing medical test in Saudi Arabia. Rumours were spread that Saleh had fled the country and he would not return home.
"The president will return home after he finished his medical treatment within days to complete his constitutional term as the president of the Republic of Yemen until 2013," Saleh's close aide told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
