Wife watched as lover stabbed husband

Melbourne, Sep 20 (IANS) A man in Australia has accused his wife of standing by watching him get stabbed by her alleged lover immediately after they had celebrated his birthday.

Chris Soteriou told the Supreme Court Tuesday that his wife Vicky stood by and watched him being stabbed as they left his 44th birthday party Jan 2 last year, Perth Now reported.

Soteriou told the court: "I felt blood running down my neck and I yelled out, 'Who are you? Why are you doing this?'"

"I yelled out, 'Run, just run. Where are you Vicky?'"

"She was standing in the middle of the street watching me get killed," he said.

Soteriou was allegedly stabbed seven times and his throat was cut in the attack. The couple had been celebrating his birthday at a restaurant in Fitzroy, a suburb of Melbourne.

Soteriou said he noticed a man crouching behind their car, and as they walked past him he pulled him back and slit his throat.

Many days later, he woke from a coma to be told by police his wife had been having an affair with a man named Ari Dimitrakis.

A few days after that, his wife was charged with attempting to murder him.

Prosecutors allege Soteriou betrayed her husband and plotted with her lover to have him killed on his birthday.

Soteriou said he had no knowledge of his wife's affair with the man. But he said on the morning of the attack, she had given him a birthday card saying she adored him.
