Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal promises to prevent unpleasant content on internet sites.

Mr. Kapil Sibal, the Union Telecom Minister sweared to put an end to the various internet sites’ slanderous and unpleasant content, as a debate raged with the move of the government, keep an eye on the cyberspace’s content.

The union minister preserved, that is in the government does not wish to meddle into the press freedom, however, if the social networking sites fail to cooperate with the government to discontinue the provocative material, than it is the government’s duty to consider the appropriate actions to be taken.

The minster hurriedly called a meeting with press came in view of the meeting held for the past few weeks with the officials of the Microsoft, Google, Yahoo and Face book, when an unpleasant substance against the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the congress Sonia Gandhi was put on the web.

Kapil Sibil said his appeal to cooperate with government fell into a deaf ear.

In its reaction, facebook said it is willing cooperate with the Government in and will remove any content that is found to be provocative and instigating violence. On the other hand, Google said it will obey the restricted law, and if it finds any improper content that instigates violence. However said just because the content is controversial, it will not remove the content

The former Union minister Mr. Shasi Tharoor supported Kapil Sibil in the matter.

On the other hand, his political opponent the MPs like Varun Gandhi and Jayant Choudhary differ from Sibyl’s views saying that the only true democratic medium is the Internet, which is free of media owners, "vested interests, media owners & paid-off journals.
