Russia launches military satellite

Moscow, June 27 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Russia Monday launched a Soyuz-U carrier rocket with a Cosmos class military satellite on board, an official said.

 
 Russian Space Forces spokesman Lt. Col. Alexey Zolotukhin said the rocket lifted off from the Plesetsk space centre in north Russia at 8 p.m. Moscow time (1600 GMT).
 
 The satellite is a new addition to the Russian network of about 60-70 military satellites, featuring updated imaging technology and a lifetime of up to seven years.
