Beijing, Aug 29 (IANS) Eight children were hurt in Shanghai city Monday when a nurse attacked them with a knife.


A worker at an informal child care centre for migrant workers in Shanghai began slashing children with a knife, wounding eight children, one seriously, China Daily reported.

The official Xinhua News Agency and other reports said the attack occurred at noon Monday at a centre in Shanghai's suburban Minhang district, home to many migrant workers. None of the children suffered life-threatening injuries.

The reports said the attacker had suffered a "psychotic episode" and had been taken into custody.

The children have been sent to a local hospital where they are out of danger.

Chinese schools and nurseries have ramped up security following a spate of gory rampages in schools and other public places that left dozens of people dead and more injured.
