New Rochelle Humane Society

The New Rochelle Humane Society is a nonprofit, private organization that strives to offer personal love and care to the injured, ill-treated, abandoned animals. The organization was founded in the year 1911. The organization provides service to nearly seventeen communities in Dobbs Ferry, Eastchester, Westchester County as well as Ardsley, Greenburg, Harrison, Elmsford, Hastings-on-Hudson, Hartsdale, Irvington, Mamaroneck Village, Larchmont, Pelham Manor, Rye, New Rochelle, Scarsdale, Rye Brook, and Tarrytown. Annually, the Rochelle humane society rescues 900 cats and 500 dogs.


Almost fifty percent of the funding for the shelters is obtained from the services offered to the animal control (saving dogs and cats which are left on the streets). The rest fifty percent is got from wills donation and bequests. The organization does not receive any funding from the federal or state.


Every year a CPA conducts an audit. The filing of taxes are made accessible for the public to inspect. It meets all the New York Philanthropic Advisory Service of the Better Business Bureau’s norms. The entire Board of Directors consists of volunteers.
