Malaysian actress deported from Myanmar
London, June 28 (IANS) Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh, who plays Aung San Suu Kyi in a forthcoming film, was deported Tuesday from Myanmar, which also barred her from entering the country, BBC reported.
An official said the actress was now blacklisted and would not be able to enter the country.
Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy won the Myanmar election in 1990. But she was put under house arrest for 15 of the next 20 years. She was released in November last year.
Michelle had met Nobel Prize winner Suu Kyi in December.
"She was deported straight away on the first flight after arriving at Yangon (Rangoon) International Airport," an official was quoted as saying.
Michelle plays Suu Kyi in the film "The Lady", slated to be released later this year.
She has also acted in the James Bond film "Tomorrow Never Dies" and in Ang Lee's "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon".
