The Indonesian government wants a man by name Benny Wenda aged 37 on charges of murder and arson. Benny lives in Oxford with his wife and six kids and campaigns of Papua Independence.

Michaeal Tene, a spokesperson belonging to the foreign ministry said that Benny is wanted by the Indonesian police and it has sought Britain’s assistance to hand over Benny to Indonesia for his alleged crime activities.

The foreign spokes person said that Benny is wanted in certain acts of crime, however Benny will undergo a fair trial and if he is found innocent, he will be let free.

The government rejected an accusation that the Benny’s handover to Indonesian government is only a part of its latest crackdown on the separatism in the Papua’s eastern province and asserted that the action is only a “law and order” issue.

In the year 2002, Benny Wenda fled from a jail in Papua. He was arrested on murder and arson charges. He is believed to have in provoked a lethal attack, which was carried out on a police station in the year 2000. He escaped to Brittan, were he got shelter.

The ethnic people of Papua has refused their region as an area under Indonesia and a low level revolution has been fought for decades by the separatist groups.

In the year 1969, a referendum that was self determined, officially enabled Jakarta to have control over Papua. But the act is broadly viewed as rigged.

The “red notice” of the Interpol against the protester follows a Papua crackdown in which three people died after the Indonesian police fired at a Pro Independence gathering.

The Indonesia Government has positioned its military and police in Papua, in large numbers. The Indonesian soldiers have been accused of violating human rights.

In Indonesia any activity that instigates separatism is considered as treason and severe punishment is awarded by the government.

A number of Indonesians have been lodged in Jails, and undergoing life sentence for participating in pro- independence meetings, carrying out separatist flags and doing traditional dances.

The foreign ministry spokesman said Benny is believed to be belonging to the separatist group and his activities are considered as unlawful by Indonesia.
