Indian woman killed in Rome accident
Rome, April 12 (IANS/AKI) A 39-year-old Indian woman, who was to return to her three children in Kerala shortly, has been killed in a hit and run accident in Rome.
Raj Jesly, from India's southern state of Kerala, who was working as a domestic help, was hit by the car near a pedestrian crossing and flung 10 metres Sunday morning in front of a group of horrified onlookers.
Her friend was slightly injured in the accident in Rome's Tuscolano area.
Police have arrested a 21-year-old Roman - identified as Federico C. - over the accident. He was arrested after his friend, who was in the passenger seat at the time of the accident, reported it to authorities.
Witnesses said the car was being driven "at a crazy speed". Police later recovered the vehicle from a garage.
Tests would be conducted if the accused was driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He faces charges of manslaughter and failure to provide help at the scene of the accident.
Jesly had been working as a legal immigrant in Italy for many years and was about to return to India, where her three children live.
