In digital age, no takers in Pakistan for Eid cards

Islamabad, Aug 12 (IANS) A few years back during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan there used to be huge demand for Eid greeting cards at roadside shops, but now the internet and mobile phones have sounded the death knell for the tradition, lament shopkeepers in the Pakistani capital.

Earlier, people used to send Eid cards to their relatives, friends and loved ones on the occasion of Eid. Seeing this as an opportunity, a large number of card stalls were set up during the season on roadsides.

The tradition is now dwindling as people wish their friends on the internet or through mobile SMSes.

Even after a week of the holy month, only a negligible number of card stalls have been set up, shopkeepers told Online news agency.

Amjad Khan, a card seller, lamented that mobile phones have destroyed his business of cards.

He said the tradition should not end, and asked youngsters to revive it.
