IBM hits century

IBM is now a century old. Kudos, to the software giant. The company traversed through many ups and downs and is still going strong. No other software company is this much old. Facebook is a mere 7 years old. The Google is 13 years old. Microsoft and Apple are in the mid 30s. If you convert the years in terms of tech years, IBM as of now is nearly 4,976 years of age.

A century ago on June 16, 1911, IBM came into the world bare bottomed and red-faced. It’s no wonder none paid attention to it. The company was not technically named as IBM initially. It was termed as C-T-R and it stands for Computing-Tabulating-Recording. As per the IBM website, the original CTR employed nearly 1300 workers. The present name IBM was christened in the year 1924.


When the IBM opened its baby blue eyes in the year 1911 many remarkable incident took place. It was the year the former Ronald Reagan was born. The world renowned painting Mona Lisa was stolen from Louvre museum in that same year. Another noteworthy incident the tool place was the first Monte Carlo race took place.  .
