Facts on Diabetes, and on bitter gourd.

In the world, India ranks first in having the highest number of people suffering from diabetes. As per the World health Organization’s latest report, the low and middle income nations, constitutes for nearly eighty percent of the death due to diabetes.

Presently Type I and Type II are two types of diabetes in existence. Type I known as juvenile diabetes or insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) is a disorder that is auto immune. In this Type I diabetes, the body is not able to produce the required amount of insulin.

In the Type II diabetes called as non-insulin dependent adult-onset Diabetes or NIDDM, even though insulin is manufactured by the pancreas, it is not sufficient enough to minimize the level of blood glucose to normal.
Type I diabetes cannot be prevented; on the other hand the Type II diabetes can be avoided with normal exercises, loss of weight and a healthy diet.

It is very much essential, to keep the level of blood sugar under control for diabetes.
Some natural healthy foods and herbs assist in combating diabetes effectively. Vegetables like Bitter gourd known as Karela is found to be helpful, in protecting an individual from diabetes. This tropical vegetable is easily available in the Indian sub-continent.

People in countries like India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh consume Bitter gourd. To subside the bitter flavor and some people fry the bitter gourd along with other vegetable like potato and eat it.

Since bitter gourd is found to posses natural property like minimizing the blood sugar level. It has chemical components, which indicates its hypoglycemic properties. The seeds of bitter gourd have peptides or ‘plant insulin’, which looks and functions like the natural Insulin, secreted from the pancreatic gland of the humans.

Two vital chemical compounds, momordicin and Charantin, is also responsible for the anti-diabetic properties of bitter gourd.
