Dubai: The Dubai Tamil Sangam celebrated Pongal festival, the Harvest carnival of the Tamils in a Grand manner, on 20.1.2012, Friday evening at the Al Tawar International School

Mrs.Jayanthi Mala Suresh, the Dubai Tamil Sangam President, presided over the function. The General Secretary and the Vice President of the Sangam, Messrs. Jaganathan and Kuthalam Liyakhat Ali delivered the welcome and Keynote address respectively.

Messrs. Madurai Ashok Babu, the Indian Consul, Sheikh Dawood, the Managing Director of Aliya Trading, Narayanan, the Bank of Baroda Official and Kalifullah, the Principal of Crescent English School, graced the occasion as guests of honor.

Madurai Ashok Babu, the Indian Consul in his address, said, that he wants to convey a message, that though the Tamil people excel in various fields, they have to give more importance for their health and wellbeing.

The managing director of Aliya trading, Mr. Sheikh Dawood in his speech expressed his desire that these kinds of celebrations should be instrumental in propagating the eminence of the Tamils, and he also assured that the Tamil people have his wholesome support and cooperation in all their endeavors.

The festival was celebrated with great pomp and show, several arts and cultural programs were performed by the kids, who happened to be the children of the Sangam members. Comedy skits were also conducted.

Mr. Vijayendrean, the executive member of the Sangam, thanked the guests and participants. Mrs. Geetha Krishnan, the treasurer, A. Mohammed Thaha, the entertainment secretary, and the committee members Messrs. Vijayaraghavan, Prasanna, Vijayendaran made the festival arrangements.

Meera Girivasan and A.Mohd. Thaha anchored the programs. Star Bhavan hotel distributed Sweet and White Pongal to all the participants.
