Asian passenger held for drug trafficking in Dubai
Dubai, May 4 (IANS/WAM) The authorities at Dubai International Airport have arrested an Asian passenger from Pakistan while trying to smuggle 70 capsules of narcotics hidden in his stomach.
Dubai customs inspectors caught the passenger while coming to Dubai on a tourist visa.
Ali Almugahwi, Director of Airports Operations Department at Dubai Airport, said: "An inspector from the passenger operations department stopped a passenger coming from Pakistan for his strange behaviour as he looked confused while approaching the inspection area at Dubai Airport-Terminal 1."
"Though nothing was found during the routine inspection, noticing his strange behaviour he was sent for an X-ray abdomen examination. The X-ray image showed anomalies in the passenger's guts as palpable strange objects were seen inside his stomach believed to be capsules stuffed with narcotics."
The trafficker later admitted to the investigation officer at Dubai Customs Passenger Operation Department that he had swallowed 70 pellets contained narcotics.
He disclosed that he planned to get in contact with somebody in Pakistan to guide him how he should deliver the goods. The objects were extracted from his stomach and the tests showed they contained heroin.
