Airlines cancel flights as volcanic cloud moves to Britain

London, May 24 (IANS) Airlines have started cancelling dozens of flights as volcanic clouds from Iceland were moving towards Britain, a media report said Tuesday.

 
 The weather office has forecast that the ash would cover all of Scotland and large parts of Britain, The Sun reported.

 The media report said that no airline in Britain was cleared to fly through areas where the ash exceeds a density of 4,000 mg per cubic metre.
 
 Scottish airline Loganair has cancelled 36 flights scheduled for Tuesday, the media report said.
 
 EasyJet cancelled its flights between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m. to and from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness and Aberdeen operating.
 
 Transport Secretary Philip Hammond said people "have got to learn" to live with chaos triggered by Iceland's volcanic activity.
 
 "My understanding is that we have gone through an unusually quiet period for volcanic eruptions in Iceland over the last 20-odd years and we are moving into a period when there is likely to be significantly more volcanic activity," he was quoted as saying.
