Learning disabled children get support
KUWAIT: Undersecretary of Kuwait's Ministry of Education Tamader Al-Sudairawi said yesterday her ministry attaches great importance to care for children with learning difficulties. "The ministry follows an effective mechanism for such care in coordination with the local specialized agencies," Al-Sudairawi told reporters on the sidelines of a workshop on "the role of sources room in tackling learning difficulties - the de facto and targeted state.


The workshop is organized by the research and development division of the ministry as part of the country's development plan for 2010-2011 in the presence of Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Research and Curriculums sector Maryam Al-Wutaid and a number of experts. "The sources rooms at schools play an essential role in polishing the skills of schoolchildren at large and children with learning difficulties in particular," Al-Sudairawi pointed out.


On her part, Al-Wutaid highlighted the importance of working out controls for the sources rooms to prevent misuse the rooms. She praised the ongoing cooperation between the ministry on one hand and the specialized agencies such as Center for Child Evaluation and Teaching (CCET) and Kuwait Dyslexia Association (KDA) on the other.


Both sides seek to detect the needs of children who have a difficulty with school work and provide such group of schoolchildren with remedial teaching inside Kuwait," she pointed out. The workshop was also attended by Director of the Ministry's Research and Development Division Dr Abdulhamid Al-Sarraf and Director of the Curriculum Development Division Dr Saud Al-Harbi as well as a number of education experts.
