Kuwait provides better healthcare to expats’
Pharmacist condemns WikiLeaks report

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 12: The Chairperson of Kuwait Pharmacists Society Dr Tareq Habib condemned recent report by Wikileaks which stresses that health service for expatriates in Kuwait has deteriorated, in addition to allegations that medicine given to expatriates is only a little better than chalk, reports Al-Rai daily.

Dr Habib noted that medicine given to expatriates is safe, and Kuwait provides better medical care to expatriates and residents than any other country across the globe, indicating the country spends an average of
KD 70 on medicine for citizens and expatriates. He explained that KD 50 the expatriates pay is meant for health services and not health insurance, which is known worldwide.

“Taking into account the expatriates benefit from surgery, X-ray and other medical examinations with the KD 50 health fee, there’s no doubt the country provides adequate subsidy in health care delivery among the expatriate community”, he indicated.

He added the Health Ministry spends more than 180 million dinars annually on medicine and medical equipment, urging the ministry must counter the allegation. He saw the need for lasting solution to the health Insurance issue to avoid unfair accusations that harm the country’s image.
