Govt to build new airports

KUWAIT: The government is planning the construction of a number of new airports to serve some of the large-scale projects being built as part of its major development plan, including Harir City and the major new port on Boubyan Island. Official government spokesman Dr. Mohammed Al-Busairi announced the statement at a press conference held on Monday following the signing of two new contracts by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) related to development of the country's aviation control system.

Dr Al-Busairi, who is also the Minister of Communications and State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, explained that one of the contracts signed on Sunday deals with aviation management, and will see the introduction of advanced new equipment to help ensure a more effective and capable aviation control system at Kuwait International Airport (KIA). The other contract, meanwhile, concerns the development of the aviation control radar system, which will ensure greater safety and security for flights, said
the minister. The two contracts, worth a combined total of KD 11 million, were signed as levels of air traffic in Kuwait continue to grow, reported Al-Qabas, with the number of travelers passing through the airport increasing by 7 percent on the same period last year.
