Apple contains soluble fiber known as pectin which helps in proper digestion process. The dietary fiber present in apple also helps in reducing the bad cholesterol. Apple is rich in Vitamin A and vitamin C. The sugars present in apple are easily absorbed by the body. Apple contains minerals such as calcium, iron, magnesium, copper, potassium and phosphorus in small quantities. Flavonoids present in apples help to prevent prostate cancer.

The quercetin in apples may protect brain cells from the kind of free radical damage that may lead to Alzheimer's disease. Apples protect post-menopausal women from osteoporosis and may also increase bone density. Boron, another ingredient in apples, also strengthens bones.
