Sponsor accused of Filipina maid’s torture, imprisonment
KUWAIT: A Filipina domestic helper accused her employer of keeping her locked inside his house for three years in addition to torturing her by beating and burning her body. The maid was taken to the hospital after escaping then sought refuge at the Philippines embassy. She told officials there that she suffered torture for three years while at her sponsor’s home and was forbidden to leave. An embassy employee took the woman to the hospital to obtain a medical report stating her injuries in preparation for legal action. Separately, a citizen reportedly punched his African maid several times so she went to the hospital and then obtained a medical report. The woman then went to the police station to file a complaint against her sponsor. Pregnant maid A domestic helper was sent to criminal detectives when her sponsor found out she was pregnant. It was later found that she had a relationship with a compatriot and would meet him in his Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh residence, while telling her sponsor that she was going to Mirqab. Pakistani found dead The body of a Pakistani man was recovered by the coroner at a bachelor’s residence in Farwaniya. Authorities are checking whether foul play was involved in the man’s death.
