MANAMA: His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa yesterday attended Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry's (BCCI) diamond jubilee celebrations in Beit Al Tijjar.

He was received by BCCI chairman Khalid Almoayed, board members, ministers, employees, representatives of the private sector and businessmen and heads of Arab Gulf chambers.

The Premier said the BCCI's long history embodies an important aspect of the kingdom's modern history, and is an honest witness to political, economic and social events in Bahrain through the ages during which the chamber has contributed and continues to contribute to economic and commercial decision-making.

"The chamber's commemoration of its diamond jubilee is not only a special occasion, but also an occasion for the entire nation to celebrate in view of Beit Al Tijjar's symbolic historic place as the first commercial chamber in the region which has had its significant role in formulation of the national economy and its development," the Premier said.

He praised the chamber's role in the advancement of the commercial sector and consolidation of the pillar of the national economy.

He commended the efforts of the private sector, businessmen and mercantile families who contributed to nation-building and development, and who supported the government to surmount many economic challenges the kingdom faced, to preserve the gains and to build on them.

Mr Almoayed thanked the Premier for patronising the ceremony, noting that his gesture will be a catalyst for the BCCI to carry on playing its effective and pioneering role in enhancing the development and economic progress march.

It also reasserts his renewed support to BCCI and the private sector and confidence in their role in spurring the economy and enhancing development partnership, he said.

He stressed that the move reflected the Premier's policies aiming to consolidate the role of the private sector in the development process in the coming period, noting that the BCCI will double its efforts to spur the national economy.

Mr Almoayed emphasised that the chamber would always support the government's policies and programmes aiming to improve the investment atmosphere in the kingdom to make it more attractive for local and foreign investors.

It will also consolidate its existing effective partnership with the government and ensure it plays a crucial role in the economic decision-making process, he added.

Shura Council chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh also congratulated Mr Almoayed and board members on the BCCI marking its 75th anniversary, stressing that the chamber is one of the most glorious civil institutions at the GCC level.
