Kuwaitis, Expats Urged To Carry Some ID At All Times


KUWAIT CITY, April 24: Directorate General of Police Support launched a surprise campaign in Bneid Al-Gar and Al- Qurain markets to seize the wanted criminals, violators of residency and labor laws, unlicensed market and street vendors. According to a press statement issued by Ministry of Interior, the campaign was carried out with the cooperation with the General Traffic Department and the Central Operation Department, and with the participation of the Police Air Wing Administration and Special Security Forces.

The campaign began in Bneid Al- Gar on Thursday evening after which the inspection team moved to Al- Qurain markets. The Public Relations and Security Media Department affirmed that many such campaigns will be carried out in all areas and governorates of Kuwait to ensure adherence to law in all parts of the country, urging Kuwaiti citizens and expatriates to carry their identification documents at all times and cooperate with the police for the latter to perform their duties.

Traffic law reforms: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid Al- Hamad Al-Sabah has issued a ministerial decree to amend some of the laws in the ministerial decree 81/1966 concerning the traffic law. According to a press statement issued by Ministry of Interior, the amendments are as follow:

Article 1 - This has been amended by Article 5 of the ministerial decree 81/76 as per which - new private cars and motorcycles bought from recognized dealers in Kuwait will be exempted from technical inspection for the first three years, provided there is compulsory third party insurance (CTP) that is valid for at least three years.

Article 2 - This has been amended by Article 11 of the ministerial decree 81/76 which states - The license period of all heavy vehicles is two years initially and then two years, provided there is compulsory third party insurance that is valid for the same period. The licensing will be renewed every year.

The amendments exclude specific vehicles mentioned in the first paragraph of Item 1 in Article 3 of the law, and the motorcycles mentioned in the fourth paragraph of Article 3 of the law. The licenses of these two types (excluded ones) are valid for the first three years if they are new, then it can be renewed twice for two years, after which the renewal process will be done on a yearly basis.
